About Kuelap

Kuelap is an important archaeological citadel that was built in the pre-Inca period. It is located in the northeastern Andes of Peru, in the Province of Luya, in the Department of Amazonas. It has a height of 3000 m.a.s.l. To get to the citadel you can book a tour from Chachapoyas, or start from the district of Nuevo Tingo, located in the province of Luya. The trip can be made on foot in a three-...hour walk, or by car in a journey that takes approximately 90 minutes. The other option is to use the gondolas that are in Nuevo Tingo. The entrance to the citadel has a cost of 20 soles for nationals and foreigners, and 10 soles for students. This citadel was built by the Chachapoyas culture, which inhabited this place at the end of the Middle Horizon and throughout the Late Intermediate period.
