Bellavista is one of the ten provinces of San Martin department, its capital is Villa Bellavista city. In the north it limits with the province of El Dorado and the province of Picota, in the east it limits with the department of Loreto, in the south it limits with the province of Tocache, and in the west it limits with the province of Mariscal Caceres and the province of Huallaga.
The province of Bellavista was created on May 31st of 1984, during the government of Fernando Belaunde Terry.
