    Yungay is a city located in the Ancash Region, in the central part of the Callejón de Huaylas, approximately 2458 m.a.s.l., near the Santa River. The most recent happened in 1970, and led to the city being rubuilt as New Yungay. The city has a vast history, and plays a vital role in the central andes trade routes.
