About Huanta

The city of Huanta is the capital of both the District and the Province of the same name, both belonging to the Department of Ayacucho. It is located at 2627 m.a.s.l. Due to its warm climate it is known as the “Emerald of the Andes”. During the Independence Campaign, Huanta remained loyal to the spanish crown, which led to it being nominated as the “Loyal and Invincible Villa of Huanta”. Huanta has a great number of touristic attractions, due to its beautiful cultural heritage, which make it an interesting destination for those interested in peruvian history.
