Roads Closed in Southern Peru: Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna
Road Conditions:
Heavy rains, mudslides and landslides are affecting several roads in southern Peru. According to the SUTRAN report published on August 19, 2026, there are 11 affected road points, with six sections where traffic is interrupted and another five where traffic remains restricted.
If you have a trip scheduled to Arequipa, Moquegua or Tacna, check the road conditions before leaving and confirm with your bus company whether the service is operating according to its scheduled time and route.
*Information updated on August 20, 2026. Road conditions may change depending on weather conditions and road maintenance work.

Which roads are affected?
Roads with interrupted traffic
Southern Coastal Longitudinal Highway – Arequipa
A complete road closure has been reported between kilometers 728 and 752, in the Caravelí-Ático section, and between kilometers 753 and 773, corresponding to the Camaná-Ocoña section. The interruption is due to mudslides.
Camaná - Mollendo - Punta de Bombón Road – Moquegua and Ilo
Traffic is interrupted due to landslides between kilometers 119 and 500. Mudslides have also been reported at kilometers 261 and 271.
Roads with restricted traffic
Camaná – Mollendo – Punta de Bombón
Controlled traffic is in place at kilometer 224, in the Moquegua–Ilo–Pacocha section, and at kilometer 303, corresponding to the Tacna–Sama section, due to mud and rocks.
This is especially important for travelers with trips between Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, as these points may affect overland transportation routes to southern Peru.

Before leaving
Confirm with the bus company that your service is still operating and ask whether there have been any changes to the route.
Check road conditions
Check official alerts before heading to the bus terminal. SUTRAN has an interactive map where you can check whether roads are interrupted, restricted or open to traffic.
Expect possible delays
